Shaping success

On the bluff

Through Strategic Growth

A New Era

In college athletics

Invest Today

The landscape of college athletics is shifting, and Loyola Marymount University is poised to lead the charge. Given the landmark House v. NCAA settlement, LMU Athletics is entering a new era that enables us to support more student-athletes across all 14 sports.

The House Settlement, certified in June 2025, marks a transformative moment in college sports. By eliminating scholarship limits and providing opportunities for institutional NIL agreements, the settlement opens new doors for growth and opportunity. It also brings an exciting opportunity to acquire the resources necessary to shape the future of our athletes, elevate our programs, and expand our reach.

Support Roar LMU

As we prepare to step into this new era of college athletics, we need your support to make sure LMU stays competitive, equitable, and poised for success. Your support will make a lasting impact in three key areas:

SCHOLARSHIPS

NIL
(Name, Image, and Likeness)

SPORT-SPECIFIC
SUPPORT

The House Settlement, a result of three major class-action lawsuits, revolutionizes how college athletics operates. Here are the key elements that will directly affect LMU:

  1. BACK DAMAGES:

The settlement includes approximately $2.78 billion in back damages for claims related to name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights. This amount will be paid over ten years, with annual installments of about $280 million coming from the Division I membership.

  2. REVENUE SHARING:

The settlement allows schools to share up to 22% of the average Autonomy Four conferences athletic media, ticket, and sponsorship revenue with student-athletes starting in the 2025-26 academic year, which is $20.5 million in 2025-26.

  3. ELIMINATION OF SCHOLARSHIP LIMITS:

The settlement eliminates Scholarship Limits, allowing schools to offer scholarships to all student-athletes on their rosters. However, new roster limits have been introduced, capping the number of student-athletes per team.

Every school outside the Autonomy Four had the option to opt-in to participating in revenue-sharing and the elimination of scholarship limits. LMU has opted in, opening new opportunities.

As part of the House Settlement, LMU will be responsible for roughly $300K per year in back damages for the next ten years despite having just a handful of student-athletes to whom the settlement applies.

LMU is now allowed to enter Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements directly with student-athletes and fully intends to support this initiative with select student-athletes.

Each of our sports must now adhere to a roster limit, making it even more competitive to become an LMU student-athlete. It also provides a tremendous fundraising opportunity to fully fund every sport.

With sports discontinuing in January 2024, LMU is better positioned for these fundamental changes than its peers in the WCC and Division I-AAA.

We no longer need our NIL funded by a third-party collective like Magis Lions, as we can enter into agreements directly with our student-athletes. For any student-athlete a coach considers deserving of compensation beyond a full scholarship, we can offer these monetary benefits in exchange for their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). These agreements will vary based on the amount and the student-athlete, but generally, in return, students will be expected to serve as good ambassadors for LMU.

THE NEED FOR SUPPORT

Though we are excited about the growth opportunities created by the House Settlement, we must recognize the financial demands it places on our programs.

SCHOLARSHIP GAPS

With 276 potential roster spots in the future, currently only 45% of those are funded by scholarships. That’s 124.1 scholarships for 276 opportunities. Your support will help close this gap, ensuring every sport at LMU has the resources to compete at the highest level.

NIL BUDGETS

To stay competitive, especially in basketball, which sees NIL budgets between $5–15 million at top programs, LMU must allocate resources to support the NIL needs of our athletes. Your support is crucial in helping us fund NIL opportunities for top-tier talent.

SPORT-SPECIFIC SUPPORT

Sport-specific support is intended to provide head coaches with the resources required to address their most pressing strategic priorities, helping position their teams for championship excellence and to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeed.
